In many societies, Lighteyes dominate over Darkeyes, and a Darkeyed ruler would suffer general opinion penalties. The Listeners of Narak would like to see them freed from their bonds, but without a way to restore the parshmen's minds, it may not be feasible. The near-mindless parshmen are reduced to pack animals for their human masters. Slaver faiths may be targeted by the Incite Slave Rebellion council task, while faiths with the Emancipation doctrine have access to special casus belli against slavers. Many faiths on Roshar practice some form of slavery, which ties in to the slavery system. Thus far, modern artifabrians have not been able to replicate these feats of ancient engineering, but recent advances have brought them closer to uncovering their secrets than ever before. While not completely indestructible, Shardplate is incredibly resilient and grants a level of super strength to its wearer. Ancient fabrials were able to heal wounds, and powerful Shardblades could cut through anything except for its counterpart - the Shardplates. Illness is comparatively rare, as the abundant investiture of Roshar has latent healing properties, and the Wisdom of the Heralds is a commonly known set of instructions for sanitation to maintain health among lowborn or highborn alike.ĭue to the cycles of desolations that have ravaged Roshar for millennia, much ancient knowledge has been lost. Soulcasters can transform matter - and the most useful of these can transform waste into food, mostly eliminating the need for supply lines. For example, Spanreeds allow people to communicate over great distances, whereas Painrials allow the manipulation of physical pain, which is useful in a surgical context. Therefore, laits - areas that are naturally sheltered from the storm - are generally developed with higher levels of drainage technology than one might expect to be available.įabrial engineering is a growing field of study that concerns the mechanical applications of investiture. All buildings must be constructed to withstand the highstorms, which only ever blow in one direction. While many comparisons could be made with respect to various time periods in Earth's history, more is unique than is similar. He has refused to comply with court orders, and the bureaucracy is slow to react to the invasion, so for the time being Emul stands alone against the Herald. However, the Tukari high priest Tezim - secretly an immortal Herald - has declared himself God-King and has launched an invasion of Emul, a vassal state of Azir. Nuatoma Mitthraw'nuruodo of Unkala sees his chance to ride out of the Horneater Peaks and claim a Shardblade of his own - which is a requirement for claiming the Kingdom of Unkala.įurther west, in the bureaucratic Azish Empire, several emperors have been assassinated by the same man over the past year, and the newest emperor has been elected as a sacrificial lamb - a young street urchin who nobody will miss. West of Alethkar lies the Kingdom of Jah Keved, which is on the brink of collapse as the Highprinces prepare for a civil war upon the death of the current king. Unfortunately, the Shattered Plains make for treacherous terrain, and the war has locked into a stalemate, as the Highprinces have grown more concerned with war profiteering than actually finishing the war. The Parshendi - literally "Parshmen who can think" in the Alethi language - assassinated Elhokar's father a few years ago, and he has called his vassals to the Shattered Plains to wage the War of Reckoning. The primary exception is the Listeners of the Shattered Plains, led by Queen Eshonai.įighting the Parshendi are the Alethi Highprinces, under King Elhokar Kholin of Alethkar. As of the game's start date, most singers are enslaved by humans and are known as parshmen. The singers are partially crustacean humanoids who have marbled skin, four genders (male, female, malen and femalen), grow chitin from their body, and can change their forms during highstorms. There are two playable species in WoK - humans and singers. Two Singers posing for a fashion magazine, illustrated by Dan dos Santos.
